Paintings, prints and cards by John Nash
Most of my paintings are landscapes and take their inspiration from the dramatic coast and unique countryside that surrounds our studio. Here in the far west of Cornwall, the astonishing number of ancient sites, stone circles, menhirs, celtic crosses and holy wells create a sense of mysticism and other worldliness that has always resonated with those of a creative or contemplative nature.
I paint mostly in acrylic and the original paintings shown on this website are unframed but on a deep-frame canvas (except where stated otherwise), so delivery costs are reduced and you can then either frame them yourself or hang them just as they are. All are avalable as prints priced at £20 which includes postage and packing - please see details below.
I make up my greetings cards by hand with colour prints pasted onto bases that are printed locally in Penzance. My notelets are A6, opening out to A4 and are printed on 120g paper by the same local supplier.

Prints are always short run, strictly limited signed editions which are accurately colour balanced to the original. Professionally printed on A4 archival quality paper using Epson UltraChrome K3 archival 8 colour pigment inks with a certified longevity of up to 80 years under correct conditions. The image size is A4 and they are sold mounted, with an 40mm acid free single mask on a backing board, ready for framing. Each is cell wrapped with a descriptive panel on reverse.

Boscawen-Un, Autumn evening. Mixed Media on board. . . . .£160
This beautiful and atmospheric stone circle just outside St. Buryan may be smaller than the Merry Maidens and off the tourist maps, but in 1928 it was chosen as the place for a ceremony that had not been seen in Cornwall for a 1000 years - the Cornish Gorsedd. Sorry, original painting is now sold.

Available as an A4 Limited Edition print signed, numbered and limited to 100 copies. £20 each (inc. p&p)

Teasels at the Maidens. Acrylic on canvas. 405 x 300 . . .£160

Teasels seem to love the soil and climate here and grow freely in the wild. This painting shows the winter seedheads in the hedgerows at the nearby ‘Merry Maidens’ stone circle, a 5,000 year old sacred site. Sorry, original painting is now sold.

The Old Moon in the New Moon’s Arms. Acrylic on canvas. 405 x 300 . . .£120

The clear light of the Lands End peninsula gives way at night to an unusually clear atmosphere, revealing a host of stars and frequently this phenomenom, where the old moon’s ghost is held in thrall by the slender new moon. This painting is over the fields at Boleigh, where in a local folk tale witches were able to take on the form of a hare.

Available as an A4 Limited Edition print signed, numbered and limited to 100 copies. £20 each (inc. p&p)

Nadelik yn Eglosberyan. Mixed Media on board. 505 x 200 . . .£160
The Cornish title of this painting describes the scene - Christmas in St Buryan. It shows the 9th century Market Cross in St. Buryan, with the floodlit parish church in the background. The tower is 92ft high, making it a landmark for miles around, especially at Christmas, when its illuminated cross shines out across West Penwith in witness to the Nativity. Sorry, original painting is now sold.

This image is also available as a Christmas card with a greeting in Cornish
Foxgloves over Lamorna. Acrylic on canvas 505 x 200. . . .£180

In early summer the Cornish hedgerows are full of wild flowers and none are more spectacular than the digitalis. They bloom in fields and roadsides and even, as in this painting, high up on the coastal path overlooking Lamorna Cove. Sorry, original painting is now sold.

Rising Mist at the Maidens. Acrylic on canvas 495 x 395 + 30mm plain wood frame in distressed white. . . .£180

The ‘maidens’ are the stones of the Merry Maidens, seen here in early summer when the morning sun evaporates the early ground mist. I watched and sketched as the mist rose upwards to form a ghostly column.

Available as an A4 Limited Edition print signed, numbered and limited to 100 copies. £20 each (inc. p&p)
