The Potters' Tale

A Cornish Adventure

by John Nash

The Potters’ Tale is the true story of a young couple from London that came to Cornwall with their three young children in 1964. They were George & Margaret Smith, both trained as potters and they came looking for work and a new lifestyle for their family, far away from the rat race of the metropolis. They found it in Cornwall’s far west, above the romantic wooded valley that leads to Lamorna Cove. After a traumatic start that left them both homeless and unemployed they went on to found their own craft pottery and to build a life amongst the artists, writers, flower growers and assorted village characters of this remote but beautiful part of Cornwall.

POTTERS TALE COVER

The book is paperback, perfect bound, 96 pages long with over 70 photos and illustrations, the great majority of which are in full colour. Written in a lively and humorous style, it will appeal to anyone with a love for Cornwall or a yearning for ‘the good life’, and especially to those with an interest in Lamorna’s famous colony of artists and writers. This includes fans of the hugely popular Derek Tangye, author of the best selling series ‘The Minack Chronicles’, and for whom Margaret worked for many years to supplement their pottery income.
